Linda joined Condies in 2011 and was appointed as a partner on 1 April 2014. Linda qualified as a Chartered Accountant through her training with a large Edinburgh based accounting firm where she spent 12 years, in the main acting for dentists, GPs and other professional practices. Linda has an intricate understanding of the dental profession and can assist dental professionals in all matters relating to practice and personal finance, ranging from the preparation of accounts and tax returns to structuring your practice efficiently and facilitating practice sales and acquisitions.

This session will help dentists, hygienists and therapists understand the importance of erosive tooth wear and why they should record it routinely in their clinical notes, like the BPE as part of every oral health assessment.
The use of the basic erosive wear examination (BEWE) will be discussed as well as practical advice for patients.
Dr Soha Dattani BSD MSC (Hons) MRD RCS – Specialist Periodontist
Soha qualified from Guys Hospital in 1991 and completed her specialist clinical training in Periodontics in 1998. She also holds a Masters in Periodontology and Membership in Restorative Dentistry.
Prior to joining GlaxoSmithKline, Soha has worked in NHS and Specialist Private Practice as well as doing House Officer and Senior House Officer posts in Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and Oral Medicine and was an Honorary Lecturer at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry. Soha has published more than 20 clinical papers in peer review journals and is winner of the Sir Wilfred Fish Award in Periodontology from the British Society of Periodontology.
Soha is currently Head of Scientific Affairs for GSK Consumer Healthcare.

This presentation looks at the steps that can be taken to maximise the profitability of a dental practice, and in the long term, grow the practice while helping the principal to not over-extend and maintain a work-life balance. In particular, it looks at setting and achieving goals and taking a market-oriented approach when establishing the direction to take a dental practice.
Briony Crew is a Marketing Specialist who joined Wesleyan Bank in 2017 and has been supporting Dentists and the healthcare team ever since. She is currently undertaking her master’s in digital marketing and enjoys using the knowledge gained to help Dentists achieve their goals and grow their practices.

This lecture will look at the recent developments in bone regeneration for implant dentistry, with the emphasis on avoiding autogenous bone block harvesting.
It will focus on the appropriate use of modern biomaterials and the adjunctive role of other biological processes to enhance the healing potential.
Paul has been involved with dental implants for over 25 years and has held a number of senior positions including: president – European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), president – Association for Dental Implantology (ADI) UK, chairman – Dental Implant Advisory Board Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and senior examiner – diploma in implant dentistry RCSEd.
He has placed many thousands of implants and been involved in a number of significant areas of implant and biomaterials research.
He has lectured nationally and internationally and has a particular interest in regenerative surgery and implant education.

Knowing how to develop a reputation as a private dentist can be daunting. Sharon discusses the proactive steps dentists can take to access an audience of potential patients and how mydentist supports those aiming to develop a private career.
Sharon Letters works as an associate and as a Clinical Director for mydentist.
Her role allows her to exercise her passion for providing the best care to patients throughout Scotland where she provides support to mydentist clinicians and practice teams, identifies training needs and helps to facilitate and deliver training courses, as well as supporting and encouraging those who wish to grow in their careers.
Sharon was instrumental in the establishment of clinical meetings and peer review groups within mydentist in Scotland with the aim of building a wider mydentist community and encouraging the fostering of local and regional dental community links.
Sharon also gives up her time to voluntarily tutor in the West of Scotland MJDF study group which prepares candidates who wish to sit their MJDF examinations.

This presentation will provide an overview of how to communicate effectively with a challenging person to try and ensure that a potentially difficult encounter does not deteriorate.
Following 25 years in general dental practice in 1995, Bryan became a dentolegal adviser for the Dental Defence Union and in 1997 deputy head of the DDU.
In December 2015 he stepped down as deputy head and is now a senior dentolegal adviser.
Whilst in GDP he worked as an associate specialist in oral surgery and for the British Dental Association.
Bryan was also a VT trainer.
He is a member of the Essex Local Dental Committee, on the Local Dental Network and the Oral Surgery Managed Clinical Network and still works alternate Saturday mornings in general practice to keep ‘his gloves wet’.

Dr Alun Rees BDS, The Dental Business Coach, graduated from Newcastle University and started his career as an oral surgery resident, before working as an associate in a range of practices.
Building upon this solid foundation, Alun went on to launch two practices in the space of just 15 months, a challenge in the toughest economic conditions.
Alun served as a media representative for both the BDA and BDHF and has featured on BBC2, Sky TV and various radio stations.
After years of hard work, Alun finally sold his dental business in 2005.
Alun’s background and experience give him a strong understanding of what others go through to build a successful practice.
He has ‘walked in your shoes’.
He has seen many different approaches and learned his own lessons in the real world.
He is an accepted authority on practice organisation and management and has written and presented widely on the subject.
A CTI-trained coach and Kolbe consultant, Alun now runs The Dental Business Coach to offer specific and specialised support for dentists and their teams.
